7 Ways To Wear F/W 2014

With September on the horizon, NYFW is rapidly approaching. In case you’re like me and don’t have front row seats to the Céline show, there are plenty of ways to get inspired and own the looks that will be taking over the runway this season.

This & more luxe goodness ahead!

Keep reading for seven trends that are going to be huge this season!

The weeks leading up to NYFW are some of the most highly anticipated in the world. (In fact, it’s almost hard to believe that just at year ago I was compiling a similar post.) The season transition from spring and summer to fall and winter may feel as though it’s a bit premature but it’s never too early to be ahead of the trends, some of which are listed below:

1. 60’s

Some of what makes something so quintessentially 60’s is its ability to channel the essence that made that iconic year so great. Mini-skirts, trapeze dresses (like those being seen on a more modern style icon Miroslava Duma) and patent Mary Janes are fantastic tricks to mastering this look.

2. All-over knit

There’s this once International Concepts shirt I have in my dresser that did a little jig when I read in Vogue that knit was making a comeback. I’m not sure how good I’ll be at helping to bring it back but to nail it I’ll need neutral, ribbed, Stella McCartney-esque blend-able pieces.

3. Eccentric furs

Runway looks tend to look a little more extreme than the average Jane is willing to wear but there’s no reason not to familiarize yourself with how to wear one of the hottest looks for fall. Fur, after all, is one of the oldest winter traditions, fashionably speaking, and is therefore a classic. Don’t be afraid to go a little wild and make a statement with bright colors!

4. XXL Coats

I fell completely in love with this look when I saw Olivia Pope working it into her wardrobe on ABC’s Scandal. Now that they’re becoming more mainstream, I am scouring the internet for the version that best suits me. The key to mastering this look is to find one in a ¾ length, challenging the “men’s” overcoat look and taking a few tips from Dior.

5. Gold

Nobody is more excited than I am that gold is a thing this season. I mean, from where I sit, it’s only natural. In the fall leaves turn gold, the golden topaz is the birthstone for ladies born in November and metallic buckles on boots in this shade are making their appearance as the temperatures begin to cool. You don’t have to own Saint Laurent to own this look…but it helps if you’re trying to be 100% on trend.

6. Ostrich

When people say “the next big thing”, I often wonder how something qualifies. After discovering the texture, lightness and femininity of ostrich I get it. It’s soft, light and elegant and kinda, sorta makes me feel like a flapper in only the best way possible.

7. Sportswear

Sunday morning me is really happy about this look being “in”. Waking up in yoga pants, throwing on a racerback tank and zipping on a warm-up jacket and being ready to go without needing to actually attend a yoga class is becoming socially acceptable and I don’t hate it. Plus it inspires me to actually go on a run since I’m already dressed.
