Coveted Closet: Olivia Pope

If you were to ask me what makes TV’s favorite fixer, Olivia Pope, so impressive I’d obviously have to start with her “who run the world” attitude. I’m a sucker for female characters who can take charge and make things happen without the permission of, well, anyone. But I’ll admit it, when it comes to her wardrobe, she is formidable in every sense.

The Limited must know that too when they decided to establish a line dedicated to Kerry Washington’s character. Recently, I made an effort to try out some of the pieces for myself so consider your questions about this line handled.

In a perfect world I would have Olivia Pope‘s effortlessly chic hair, her “take no prisoners” sense of confidence and obviously, her wardrobe. When I heard The Limited was answering my prayers, sartorially speaking, I was absolutely thrilled and recently made a visit to my local Limited location to try it out for myself.

Drape Collar Wrap Coat

The powder blue of this coat is exactly the kind of smart but unexpected style decision Olivia Pope would make.

I have a serious thing for outerwear this season and I’d like to think that Olivia inspired me to step up my game. This coat is soft yet durable for harsh conditions. If I’ve learned anything from Olivia it’s that your style doesn’t have to suffer regardless of whether you’re facing the cold or someone/ something has turned up the heat.

Liv Flare Leg Trouser Pant

These pants are great for your 9-5 or those "networking" meetings after work for when you really work your magic.

I could definitely see myself spending some late nights in these pants and not even being mad about it. They glam up just about anything you pair them with and have crisp lines for any professional situation you might find yourself in. I even love the metal detailing at the closure which adds just enough gladiator-like roughness to balance out the pumps you will undoubtedly pair with them to keep the hem off the ground.

Turtleneck Sweater Cape

Like a good political operative., Olivia is all about layers, as demonstrated by this chic sweater that can double as a quick cover on chilly days.

D.C. gets cold. (Not Boston cold but it gets cold.) Even with all the running around Olivia does, no Peet’s Coffee can warm her up the way this sweater-cape hybrid can. Pair it with a button up or a long sleeve tee and you have yourself the most perfectly versatile sweater you could ever hope to find.

Drape Front Cardigan

Because Olivia is never underdressed. Not even when she's sipping out of a colossal glass of wine.

As great as Olivia’s professional wardrobe is, one thing that really gets me is how Olivia manages to look so wonderfully chic even when she’s at home. This sweater is the epitome of effortless and is precisely what the doctor ordered when to stepping up your casual pieces. The  soft knit wraps you up like a big hug while still allowing for plenty of movement, damage control or whatever is on your “to do” list.

Metal Accent Top

I love it when you can make your clothes do all the talking.

This top caught my eye when I realized that the chain embellishment would take the guess work out of jewelry. The key to Olivia’s wardrobe is versatility because, let’s face it, her job is hard enough as it is. Dramatize this top by pairing it with a dark blazer or lighten it up with something brighter…like a white hat perhaps?

Tailored Cape Coat

Capes are big this year due, in part, by Ms. Pope's remarkable sense of style.

With one more nod to capes, this coat is everything you’ve ever wanted to make a statement at work. The buttons add a classic professional feel to the richness of grey threads and your arms are free to carry a great oversized bag, pair of elbow-length gloves or memo to your boss.

When it’s time to make a statement, or perhaps just remind people who is boss, this blouse is ready for the job. The pleats and single button closure are so classy and I’d be tempted to wear this top to every major work event just to show it off.
