Class of 2014: Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

In case you missed it, another kind of annual holiday pageantry was broadcast from the city of London last night. There was an abundance of gold, winter white and sparkles everywhere you looked. In case you haven’t caught on, I’m talking about the 2014 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Keep reading for some of my observations & favorite things from the show!

Unlike in past years, there was a lot of hype about this show ahead of it’s television premiere. I had blog traffic as early as two weeks ago on related subjects even before the real deal aired so I knew this year was going to be huge. And thankfully, the show did not disappoint. I mean, how could it with superstar Behati Prinsloo opening the opulent “Gilded Angels” segment in a god/ goddess-like gold ensemble?

Before each show I always wonder, “how in the world is Victoria’s Secret going to outdo themselves this year?” From the unexpected hue of Devon Windsor’s platinum blonde hair to the LED-lit catwalk, every step of this fashion show was carefully crafted to highlight the artwork and passion that goes into the show.

She might not be an "Angel" but Devon Windsor has a certain ethereal glow about her, don't you think?!

It takes a few things to master walking down a catwalk like the one shown last night and from what I can tell, if you can strut with a cheeky wink (or flirty motion of your choice) all while playing your favorite Taylor Swift song in your head and stepping to the beat, you’ve pretty much got it covered.

This year’s show had 47 models and more outfit’s than ever. It also included performances by Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran & Hozier, all of whom complimented their respected themes. I was especially fond of Taylor’s performance in “Dream Girls” where “playful looks & push-up silhouettes-all in a powder puff palette” were the focus.  Taylor look so comfortable up there which is probably because her look was topped with an extra-luxe, lace-trimmed robe meaning she didn’t have to bare all while performing. My kinda girl. (True confession: I definitely own those open-toe marabou slippers with the poof & I have never wanted to wear them so badly.)

The moment the internet was waiting for didn't air but that's okay because Ari was not to be upstaged with her stellar mash-up performance. (Photo credit.)

One of most interesting parts was the intimate look into Adriana Lima & Alessandra Ambrosio’s friendship. In a world and an industry where competition is everything, it was refreshing to see that two successful women have come up together to be the faces of a franchise. It was very sweet to see that they have been real friends for over 15 years and the brand honored this friendship by having them walk side-by-side in two fantasy bra designs this year.

Lastly, my absolute favorite part was the close-up of Karlie Kloss’ love for ballet. Having been a ballerina myself, it also inspires me to her other ballerina’s describe their love for the art and explain how it transformed their lives. I have known for quite some time that Victoria’s Secret models practice Mary Helen Bowers’ Ballet Beautiful program to maintain long and lean bodies and I think it’s safe to say that I have been motivated to get back to dancing again in the near future.

Cutting her hair was perhaps the riskiest/ best thing Karlie has ever done for her modeling career. And I love it! (Photo credit.)
