Trend Report: Athleisure

On the heels of last week’s post about the fantastic and festive spring shopping party at Lou & Grey, I have decided to delve a little deeper into what the recent athleisure trend is really made of. If you’re looking for a way to freshen up your wardrobe for spring, this is it.

I’ve always been a big fan of black and have recently experimented with the monochromatic look. With the athleisure trend, it’s easy to layer pieces without looking like you’re taking yourself too seriously.

Embracing this trend wholly is wearing it everywhere and if you’re going to do that, you’re going to want fabric that breathes and ensures comfort for all of your activities.

Styling denim in various shades and chambray with accessories and complimenting hues of grey and blue, takes the casual look up a notch but makes it a million times more versatile and chic.

When black or white is too severe, grey is the perfect balance and makes for a fantastic and new spin on a neutral.

It seems too comfy to be true but joggers are the new causal wear “must have”. More carefree than leggings but less expected than jeans, You can wake up in them, run errands in them, work out in them and hit the bar in them. (But I recommend showering in between.)

First it was shell toed tops, then it was soccer cleat look-alikes and now it seems to be, well, anything. From brightly colored New Balances to lightweight Nikes, kick back in a pair of shoes that will keep you going in style.

There has been a lot of attention given to leggings and yoga pants in recent years, perhaps because they are everything other pants are not. Paired with the right pieces, leggings don’t scream “look at me” and compliment your outfit.

In addition to grey, navy, olive and slate are all athleisure-approved hues that are equal parts sporty and classic.

It was only recently that I became familiar with this perfect print. Whether it’s on a tank, a tee a running jacket or a blazer, it’s equal parts edgy and polished.

Sometimes a sweater seems too bulky but you want another layer. In cases where you want to reach for a sweatshirt, now you can. Except in this new world of being stylish, it’s called a pullover.
