One of my all-time favorite books celebrates a character who recognizes special days in her own way. This idea of acknowledging the little things that are often overlooked is always an excellent reminder that I simply do not appreciate the little things enough. After a little thinking and a lot of research, I have discovered that there are way more things to celebrate in April aside from the arrival of spring.
Keep reading for what I’m celebrating this month & to enter my fabu-lash giveaway!
April 10: National Siblings Day
I’m the oldest of three which means that in most cases, I learned, lost and messed up a lot of things first. Its amazing how much three different people from the same family can be and how well they go together. We compliment each other’s styles, palates and strengths which makes for lifelong learning experiences we would never find anywhere else.
Here are some of the chic-est siblings in show business.
April 11: National Pet Day
At the end of 2013, I adopted a precocious ball of fluff from MSPCA-Angell. Part Maine Coon, fully adorable, Lucy has been a spunky addition to my family and a major source of cuddles for me. Since we don’t know exactly when her birthday is, April 11th seems as good a time as any to smother her with kisses and slip her some extra catnip treats.
Follow her adventures on Twitter by searching the hashtag #Lucythecuriouskitten.
April 12: National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day
Never missing an opportunity to indulge in a little comfort food, this classic is definitely one of my all-time favorites. Add some slices of tomato and leaves of fresh basil and I’m in heaven.
Celebrate in the city with these spots thats serve up the best versions.
April 13: National Scrabble Day
Whether its Words With Friends or the board game version, Scrabble is one of my all-time favorite games. Using strategy, my love of words and some creativity, this is my rainy day go-to. (Full disclosure: I don’t take any prisoners.)
You can find me at spots like these with a beer and a board for grown-up game night.
April 14: National Pecan Day
Few things say summer to me like a recipe with pecans. Perhaps its because of their use in Southern recipes or the healthy crunch they add to seasonal salads but whatever the reason, this day officially kicks off pecan season.

April 15: National Tax Day
The day has finally come for you to stop procrastinating, be a grown-up and get what’s coming to you. And by that I mean your tax refund, of course. But instead of spending it on things with small returns, prioritize your “investments” by keeping in mind bigger financial projects and things you thought about doing all year if only your taxes weren’t taken out in the first place.

April 16: National Wear Your Pajamas To Work Day
Okay so maybe footie pajamas aren’t a seasonably sound fashion choice. (Will it feel like spring by this time? Who knows!) If an extreme take on “I woke up like dis” isn’t your thing, give the trend of athleisure at try. You’ll look cool and comfortable and it takes very little effort to look this chic.

April 17: National Haiku Poetry Day
The best things in life,
are short, sweet and to the point.
Like this fun haiku.
Read these to put a smile on your face.
April 18: National Columnists Day
As the world of printed word slips away and sources like The Skimm take over as our one-stop source of news, there’s something to be said for those writers who still work to bring us their stories on the edges of the newspaper. Celebrate them and their hard work by picking up something in print today.
April 19: National Hang Out Day
Sometimes its just good to stop or, at the very least, slow down. Take a breather today, by yourself, with a group or maybe just with your cat.
If you forget how, there’s a Pinterest board for that.
April 20: National Pineapple Upside Down Day
It was just last week that I discovered Yoplait has a Pineapple Upside Down Cake-flavored yogurt. JUST. LAST. WEEK.
Never going to be unprepared for my next craving with these.
April 21: National Chocolate Covered Cashews Day
If you don’t like things dipped in chocolate, I don’t trust you.
Especially since you can do it to just about anything.
April 22: A City Girl’s Guide To life turns FOUR!

April 23: National Picnic Day
Because I have a hard time justifying NOT eating a meal on blanket on the floor.
Here’s how you can do it but still feel like a grown-up.
April 24: National Pigs In A Blanket Day
It’s an appetizer staple for a reason.
April 25: National East Meets West Day
There’s never not a good time to go out/ order out for Asian Fusion but today it’s really a thing.
April 26: National Pretzel Day
Save yourself the trouble and head to Brookline Ave. during baseball season. It just tastes better at Fenway.
And here is a guide for all of the other delicious things they serve.
