I’m not sure there’s anything better than a weekend with friends, homemade taco nights and visiting one of your favorite cold brew destinations in Brooklyn. And that’s just the start of my recent weekend adventure to NYC.

For collegiettes and working ladies alike, it’s about that time of the year when we all wish for a break from the every day. In undergrad, when spring break was so close I could taste it, I found myself daydreaming about how I would pack my suitcase and what necessities I would need to load into a carry-on. After my years of travel, I’ve figured out how to pack for almost any situation in the most efficient way possible.

It’s no secret that I love fashion. I live it, wear, read it… I think it’s seriously overlooked that fashion has a significant role to play in society, especially when it comes to connecting excellent causes and the community. This past weekend I was able to see this in action and participated in my first fashion show since I was a little girl.

I’ve been having so many adventures lately! From exploring new spots downtown to staying cozy indoors with friends, I’ve made the most of the chilly days that have been lingering. That being said, I’m really looking forward to some springtime favorites!
Keep reading to see what I’ve been up to and what I can’t wait to do once the weather gets a little warmer!
For the past several months I’ve been very lucky to work and play in one of my most favorite parts of the city. Working on Beacon Hill has been such a treat and is super convenient when I want to visit some of my favorite places and people. Below are some of my favorite spots, new and old, for all of your friendly neighborhood adventures!
On weekends when I’ve been running around working hard, playing hard or just haven’t seen enough of my Dad, our Sunday morning dates to pick up fresh breakfast from Brooklyn Water Bagel is such a treat. The bagels from this spot are just as good as any spot I’ve been to in NYC (perhaps better, sorry Big Apple friends) and obviously I can’t beat the company. If you haven’t tried this place to start your morning off on the right foot, you must try it!
My campaign friends know that I go through kicks of feeling the need to spoil people I love with baked goods. This year, I’ve thrown quiche into my repertoire along with red velvet cupcakes, cookies and mini-cheesecakes. Baking feels especially important during the time of year when a little bite of something sweet makes for a great distraction for the cold. Check out some of my favorite recipes for all kinds of goodies here!
One of my favorite signs of warmer weather are the postings for Farmer’s Markets and farm openings. My favorite local spot makes lemonade with agave that is the stuff dreams are made of. From corn on the cob to kale, buying local feels great and is great for local businesses. Fun fact: It’s also better for you! (If you have a favorite farm stand, local CSA or market your frequent, share it with me by following me on Twitter!)
Every fashionista loves (and possibly lives) for the binge event that is an awards show and this year’s Academy Awards did not disappoint. After having bought a new top at Zara just hours before that could have been cut from the dress of the stunning Lupita Nyong’o, I was ecstatic to see that she walked away a very deserving awardee. Now if only I could catch up on all of those movies I seem to have missed!
Spring is a perfect excuse to pick up some some “must haves” for the new season. Whether you’re going on spring break or just need one, things that are still appropriate for the season are on sale and current styles are exactly what your wardrobe needs for a little pick-me-up!
Stay tuned for more of my adventures in the city and elsewhere and don’t forget to follow the blog on Facebook and Tumblr!
So far, the first month of 2013 has been quite the adventure. What began quite literally as a party has taken off and become a fast paced learning experience. From party hats to hats and mittens, I have been in and out of the city with friends, lots of tea and adventures off and on the unemployment line. That’s right folks, I finally got a job.
I’m sure it comes as no surprise to some of you that I’ve gone back to being a political operative. This means I’m back to my irregular eating schedule, Instagramming things I love when I love them (which is usually right away) and rubbing elbows with lots of pretty cool people. In the last month I’ve attended Senator Elizabeth Warren‘s Ceremonial Swearing-In at Roxbury Community College, visited with my friends Kaitlyn and Will and happily concluded my wallowing as a “stay at home daughter”.
This month also brought seeing my sister off to her semester abroad in Spain after eating a very tasty “last supper” of sorts), my short stint as a boutique salesgirl/ stylist and finally visiting a local watering hole for the strongest Scorpio Bowl I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve learned to balance this roller coaster of events with some homemade coffee drinks, a men’s white shirt (paired with a red A-line skirt and cinched with a thin patent belt of course!) and plenty of sweet somethings.
Speaking of sweet somethings, I want to take this opportunity to reiterate my general love for the North End. Of course the ristorante‘s are quaint, the parks are adorable and the roof decks are seasonally enjoyable but the part I love the most is that no matter the mood or the season, a little treat from one of the bakeries is the perfect ending to any day. My personal favorite, Modern Pastry, has the best cannolis, crème brûlée and other desserts if you’re looking for something to snack on or share. That plug aside, it always feels like you’re doing something special when you’re just steps from some of the most historic parts of the city.
I have a feeling that 2013 has a lot in store (and I don’t just mean more frigid weather). I anticipate living vicariously through my sister’s adventures in Seville, enjoying this sense of inner peace I seem to have acquired and getting to make the most of this new professional adventure.
As a self-proclaimed city girl, I know it might take an embarrassing amount of late night food, more snow boot-less trudging around in the snow and taking a wrong turn once or twice but I’m ready. After all…
