And so ends another great week in 2016; another getaway, another nap curled up on the couch, another lunch comprised of leftovers from brunch and another week where I wore a sweater to work backwards by accident. I love 2016 already. Everything about its sleep-in-late-and-watch-The-Hangover-3-while-your-boyfriend-makes-breakfast kind of mood has been good for my soul. It’s been a long time coming but I think that 2016 is going to be quite the year.

Lazy days have been filling up my weekend calendar.

Keep reading for some of the new things I’ve experienced so far.

“Let’s Do Lunch!”

Aside from breakfast, brunch and dinner, lunch is easily my favorite meal of the day. Since my undergrad days, I have sought out the perfect lunch spot from Back Bay to the North End. Weekdays and weekends make for perfect times to research and I have found that despite my travels, I have yet to lock down a favorite spot. It would seem that there are too many places that are just too delicious!

Keep reading to discover some of the best places I’ve grabbed a midday meal at and see if any of your favorites made the list!

Check out some of these local spots!
Check out some of these local spots!

1. Legal Seafoods (Charles Square)

Popular here: “6 oysters”, “tall boys” & “white sangria”

My top 3: steamers, jumbo shrimp cocktail and sautéed mussels

I’m a Boston girl, and therefore a New England girl so it should as no surprise that a bonafide seafood spot is on this list. From an early age I was raised with the saying, “If it isn’t fresh, it isn’t legal” and I have never once said no to an oyster here.

20 University Rd., Cambridge

Open weekdays for lunch.

2. The Sinclair Kitchen

Popular here: “Kale salad”, “small plates” & “crafted cocktails”

My top 3: Brunch, duck confit hash and brussels sprouts

If you’re looking for the perfect spot to lunch or brunch while enjoying the weekend in Cambridge then look no further. This spot is close to the Harvard-hub and the small plates will leave plenty of room for cupcakes at Sweet later on.

52 Church St., Cambridge

Open Saturdays for lunch, 10am-noon on Sundays. Closed until dinner on weekdays.

3. Mr. Bartley’s Burger Cottage

Popular here: “Frappe”, “onion rings” & “sweet potato fries”

My top 3: “American Idol”, the “Kevin Garnett” & rickey

Mr. Bartley’s has a burger named for many of my favorite people which might be him buttering me up to be on this list or just his creatives juices flowing. Either way,  it’s vitally important for you to try this spot if you consider yourself a Bostonian, a burger connoisseur or a lover of food in any way, shape, or form.

1246 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge

Open weekdays for lunch.

4. Thornton’s Fenway Grille

Popular here: “Chicken fingers”, “brunch” & “Texas toast”

My top 3: Outside dining, chicken & broccoli & $5 margaritas on Thursdays

Disaster struck during my undergrad years when this establishment was a casualty in a neighborhood fire just after I had discovered it. Now it makes for a great meet-up spot among me and my post-grad friends, complete with twenty-five cents wing nights and delicious salads.

100 Peterborough St., Boston

Open weekdays for lunch.

5. Basho

Popular here: “Phoenix roll”, “sashimi” & “miso black cod”

My top 3: Spicy tuna roll, summer roll & Asian-inspired cocktails

The thing about Basho is that it’s so gosh darn chic. From the lighting to the set-up, I always feel so cosmopolitan here. The lunch specials are reasonable for a business lunch or a lunch date and the sushi menu is ideal for novices and experts alike.

1338 Boylston St., Boston

Open weekdays for lunch.

It's hard to find a lunch as tasty as this. Unless you're in Boston.

6. Cask ‘n Flagon

Popular here: “Cask burger”, “Middlebrooks sandwich” & “spinach artichoke dip”

My top 3: Guinness, wings & calamari

I would never encourage you skip work to catch a game (even if it’s only on TV). That would be wrong. However, if you’re into that sort of thing, this is one of the best places to indulge on brews and bites. It’s also apparently the best baseball bar in the nation (according to ESPN).

62 Brookline Ave., Boston

Open weekdays for lunch.

7. Eastern Standard

Popular here: “Whiskey Smash”, “Old Cuban” & “Blueberry Thrill”

My top 3: “Trademark”, tartare & “Metamorphosis”

I’d recommend this place for weekend lunch/ day drinking only because I couldn’t possibly tell you any of the ingredients in any of their signature drinks (see also: ALL OF THEM). Of course, you can order a classic Rum & Coke but this is not the kind of place where you want to be that guy. Trust me.

528 Commonwealth Ave., Boston

Open weekdays for lunch.

8. The Asgard

Popular here: “Tater tots” “25 cent wings” & Trivia Nights

My top 3: “Chili nachos”, Newport Blueberry Storm, Nerdy Brunch

It’s really easy to love an Irish pub. Shepherd’s Pie is the comfort food of all comfort foods on a rainy day, on a snowy day or on a day when you really need Shepherd’s Pie. And who ever heard of a bad day to order a Guinness?!

350 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge

Open weekdays for lunch.

9. The Lower Depths

Popular here: “$1 hot dog”, “Kenmore tots” & “Tots Supreme”

My top 3: Craft beer, veggie melt sandwich & Green Monster salad

Nothing says cool like “cash only”. It helps that this place is located a couple of blocks from Fenway Park which means that you have another alternative if you don’t make it into a game.

476 Commonwealth Ave., Boston

Open weekdays for lunch.

10. Craigie On Main

Popular here: “Roasted beef bone marrow”, “burger” & cocktails

My top 3: Triple-beef cheeseburger with spiced ketchup, red vinegar pickles & roasted chicken

Look this place up on Foursquare and it’s one of the most fantastic guides to a restaurant, ranging from detailed analysis via self-proclaimed “foodies” to actual food critics. Consider this on the top of my list for Cambridge spots and try it out for yourself.

853 Main St., Cambridge

Open Sundays for brunch.
